DIY MICROWAVEABLE POPCORN

Who doesn’t love Popcorn?

Light

Airy

Fluffy

Low Calorie

Perfect snack for movie nights, game nights, get together , random munching and what not.

When ever I buy a big bag of already popped pop corn, there are leftovers and no matter how hard I try, air gets into the bag and you end up with sad, hard, chewy popcorn.

Meh!

On the other hand the ready to pop, microwaveable bags are lined with nasty chemicals and the corn kernels inside are laden with artificial ingredients to give the buttery taste. So its best to stay away from those cute little baggies.

Ouch!

Instead, make your on popcorn, in the microwave, within minutes using only two ingredients, without any nasty chemicals or artificial ingredients in a brown bag. Yes, you heard me right….brown bag.

This is one recipe which the kids can totally make on their own. Guide them, but let them do all the work and trust me they will be super proud of themselves in the end.

Instructions
  1. Measure the popcorn kernels.
  2. In a brown lunch bag, add the kernels and oil. Shake and fold the top of the bag twice to firmly close it.
  3. Microwave the bag on high setting for 1-3 minutes.
  4. Popcorn is done when the time between pops becomes less than 4 seconds.
  5. Carefully open the bag, sprinkle some salt and give a quick shake. To make it extra decadent, drizzle butter/ coconut oil and enjoy
Recipe Notes
  • I useĀ Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popcorn Kernels and they work every time.
  • Do not wait for the popping sound to end, or you will burn the popcorn.
  • There will be some unpopped corn kernels in the bag. That is A-OK!
  • Every microwave is different. Some take as little as 1 minute, while others might take almost 3. Once you make the popcorn, you will have a clear idea about the actual cook time for your microwave.
  • As far as flavoring goes.....sky is the limit. Add salt, cheese, brown sugar, nutritional yeast, honey....what ever you heart desires.
  • I have tried making the popcorn without adding any oil in the beginning and though the recipe works, the popcorn wasn't yummy.
