So it all started with a conversation with a fellow Texan Mom.
We were discussing our food struggles thanks to the plethora of food allergies our kiddos have and how we have to buy such a variety of ingredients and products for the whole household (especially the Men of the house, since nothing healthier ever tastes remotely good to them).
As our conversation progressed more moms joined in. We discussed our favorite brands of Gluten-Free Bread, approved by the kiddos and why we too like them.
But,
When it came to regular bread, surprisingly we were torn right in between. Half of us including myself said Dave’s Killer Bread and the other half mentioned Heartland.
Hmm.
Before that day, I had never heard of this company so inquired about it and asked where I could buy it so I could give it a try.
So let’s talk about both of them.
First of all I love companies who are doing something more for the community then just selling their products. Both these companies are star in that sense.
Dave’s Killer Bread is literally killing it by giving second chances to people to redeem themselves as they believe that everyone is capable of greatness.
DAVE’S KILLER BREAD: AMERICA’S NO.1 ORGANIC BREAD
We have been fans of Dave’s Killer Bread for years now.
One day, years ago, while in California I came across this new Organic Bread. The packaging looked interesting and while it was on the pricier side when compared to the regular bread, when I read the ingredients it was totally worth it.
-Organic
-Non-Gmo
-Non- Bleached Flour
-Kosher
-No High Fructose Corn Syrup
-Super Grains like Quinoa, Spelt, Rye, Millet, Barley.
Yes….it is that WOW
At that time, only a few stores carried it and at times I had to buy and freeze a few since they would run out soo quickly. But now that it not a problem as it available everywhere and in multiple flavors too.
The bread retains its crispness after being toasted and thanks to the whole grains, keeps you satiated.
When we moved to Texas I was soo happy that even Walmart and Costco (limited variety) carries them.
Dave’s Killer Bread comes in a variety of flavors each of which is loaded with whole grains. If you are watching your calorie count they have thinly sliced options too.
Also try their bagels which are are protein dense.
In 2019 they launced Organic English Muffins in two flavors, which I have to yet to get my hands on but I am sure they will be killer awesome too.
All their products freeze well. I have used the bread to make sandwiches, french toasts, croutons and even used in koftay(meatballs) to keep them soft and from breaking.
So onto my newer find.
HEARTLAND BREAD: LOCALLY SOURCED IN DALLAS-FORTWORTH METROPLEX
This, as of now, it is only available in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
I went to a couple of grocery stores and everywhere I went it was sold out which made me wanna try it even more. Finally, I was able to find the Heartland Bread at my local Sprouts.
(New White Packaging mixed with the old one in the middle)
Why Heartland Bread?
First of all, it is locally sourced, which we should all be supportive of and secondly, there is no addition of preservatives or chemicals which is a big deal, thirdly they use real ingredients.
The ingredient list is super short with real, natural ingredients, the main one being Organic Montana Wheat Berries which are stone-ground every morning. The only downside is that since there are no preservatives added, the bread goes bad super quick so if u do not intend to use all of it, freeze it and enjoy as needed.
The first thing you will notice when you buy the bread is that it feels heavier than the regular bread. It is dense and retains that composition after toasting too and keeps you full for a longer time.
I have tried almost all the flavors and trust me they all rock. With nothing funky added, it is worth every penny.
Check out the ingredients of the Light Oat Bran…..
–Untreated Unbleached Wheat FLour
-Water
-Sugar
-Oat Bran
-Oats
-Salt
-Yeast
That is it! It tastes like homemade bread!
As of the moment, you can buy it at Whole Foods, Sprouts, Tom Thumb and Kroger.
The major difference between the two is that Dave’s Killer Bread is lighter compared to Heartland Bread which is super dense.
So if you live around the DFW Area, I highly suggest trying the Heartland Bread. If not, go for Dave’s Killer Bread which is available nation wide as well as in Canada.
